WARNING 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide

2.5 Benzoyl peroxide is most commonly used in Spot Creams for treating acne and related diseases. Most brand named Spot Creams contain 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide which is usually applied to acne prone areas in very thin layers.

Despite many claims that a stronger dose of Benzoyl Peroxide is needed, scientific research has confirmed that 2.5% is the best amount to be used. Using more than 2.5% will NOT be more affective on most people and could cause severe dehydration damage to the skin cells. This can also lead to very itchy skin and a burning sensation with possible inflammation and severe swelling. Worse side affects can appear the longer it is used.

Developed tolerance after a week or so

Most people develop a tolerance after the first few weeks of using Benzoyl Peroxide and don’t notice the sensations or develop any further noticeable  side affects and notice a significant reduction in acne spots. Although a small percentage of people continue to experience the side affects and in some very rare cases severe skin reactions.

The chemical works by speeding up the rate at which the skin cells die and peel which in turn helps to reduce acne by clearing out the skin pores lessening the ability for acne to regenerate.

Benzoyl Peroxide CANCER WARNING !!

In recent studies it has been linked with the ability to cause CANCEROUS TUMORS.

The FDA moved Benzoyl Peroxide from a category 1 to a category 3 status (which means that your safety is not certain and use at YOUR own risk). It was changed following research involving mice, the scientists found that it was a cancerous tumour promoter. The research finalised that Benzoyl Peroxide has the capabilities of initiating the growth of cancerous tumours.

Ensure a strong sun lotion is used in conjunction with Benzoyl Peroxide as it affects your skins ability to protect its self from the sun and heal correctly. The chemical creates Free radicals which can cause PREMATURE ageing and faulty healing of the skin cells by altering there DNA. Although there is alot to be concerned about many companies still use the chemical and promote the use of it.

This research was completed in 1995 and more in-depth analysis was started as of yet we are still awaiting the findings.
